TALLAHASSEE – Curious about how your federal tax dollars are being spent to stimulate Florida’s economy?
Wonder no more.
The state on Thursday unveiled a new Web site that allows Floridians to review how the state and local governments are using the money coming to Florida through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
“We will ensure that Florida is using the highest standards of fiscal integrity, transparency and accountability in putting the federal stimulus dollars to work for Florida’s families and businesses,” said Gov. Charlie Crist.
The Web site – www.FlaRecovery.com – is a clearinghouse of all public records and documents related to the federal stimulus program and a one-stop resource for citizens interested in learning more about assistance available to them. The site will also provide connections to information about unemployment compensation, workforce training, food stamps and cash assistance.
Florida’s share of the federal stimulus package is estimated to be more than $13 billion over three years. Crist is hoping to persuade a reluctant Legislature to use $4.7 billion to shore up the 2009-2010 state budget. According to the White House, the stimulus package is expected to create or retain 206,000 jobs statewide.
