Locally owned and operated, Hearth & Soul is a haven for all things home. The thoughtfully curated store promotes local artisans and hosts many community events—two endeavors Grace Kurowski enjoys most about her role. As an artistic soul, Kurowski takes pride in fostering a space for Tallahassee’s creative community.

Is there a next great project/opportunity that you are excited about?

I’m excited about a potential new creative venture inspired by my work at Hearth & Soul. The recent launch and success of the coffee table book Here Is Tallahassee sparked something in me and opened the door to new connections and ideas in the publishing space. Who knows where it may lead, but I’m excited to see it unfold!

What advice would you give to young people/entrepreneurs with a similar trajectory to yours?
Say yes to opportunities, even if they don’t look exactly like what you envisioned. At 16, I took over a handmade scarf business. I built a brand, created marketing materials, and even interned for free at a local boutique to get my products in front of customers. That experience taught me invaluable business skills and showed me that you can create your own opportunities, especially when you’re willing to ask, learn, and take initiative.

What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of?
Purchasing my first piece of property/home. I saved diligently in college, made intentional financial decisions and stayed focused on my long-term goals. It was a challenging but deeply rewarding journey.

What motivates you?
The people around me are my greatest source of motivation. My fiancé and our sweet pup, Dixie, are the light of my life—they welcome me home after long days and support me in everything I do. My parents have always been my biggest supporters, and I’m endlessly grateful to them. I was adopted from China at 14 months old, and not a day goes by that I don’t appreciate the life and opportunities they’ve given me. I carry that gratitude into everything I pursue. I’m also deeply inspired by my friends and coworkers—their support, energy, and encouragement, whether in big moments or small, constantly remind me why I love what I do.

What would you go back and tell a newly 20 year old you?
Don’t sweat the small stuff—life has a way of working itself out, even if it doesn’t go exactly as planned. Though it wasn’t long ago that I was 20, the past few years have brought experiences that pushed me far beyond what most people my age typically face. Everyone’s journey is different, but I’ve learned that resilience, staying calm, and knowing when to ask for help are some of the most valuable tools you can carry with you.
