Koby Townsend

City Manager for City of DeFuniak Springs, 26
Townsend Koby

A desire to improve his community’s quality of life is the primary goal that guides Koby Townsend in his work. In his career of service, he hopes to create opportunities that allow residents to live comfortable lives, where young people have the chance to build careers and raise families without leaving for bigger cities, as he has for himself, his wife Shea, and 8-month-old daughter Addison.

What’s the accomplishment you’re most proud of?

It is hard to pick an accomplishment that can compete with becoming a father. However, my proudest would be completing my MBA, not because of what it is, but what it took to achieve. During the two years as a full-time student, my wife and I became parents, I assumed the role of city manager, and we had to buy and sell homes. The many things that happened during that time have made me a better leader.

What advice would you give to young people with a similar trajectory to yours?

Listen to your parents. They have been there and done that. My parents molded my character and set the foundation for who I am today. Also, recognize that life is difficult, but nothing is impossible. Success comes to those who are honest, trustworthy, and willing to put others before themselves.

What would you go back and tell newly 20-year-old you?

Time moves fast. Continue to be aggressive toward success. Do not fear being uncomfortable. Take risks.

What motivates you?

My motivation is coming home each day to see my wife, Shea, and eight-month-old daughter, Addison, smiling as I walk through the door, and knowing that I am doing what I love and being of service to others.

How do you hope to make an impact within your community?

I hope that during my tenure with the city, that I do all that I can to improve the community’s quality of life and assist in creating opportunities that afford our children the option to stay, raise a family, and live a comfortable life.
