Not all markets are growing. As new industries rise, others fall. Below is a data-driven look at industry contraction, job shedding, and economic transition across Northwest Florida.
Methodology: Analysis by David Ekrut, Ph.D. Data were extracted from the Bureau of Labor Statistics publicly available tables. Suppressor data for small populations were categorically rejected due to insufficient data. Industries included were among the top gains and losses in the public sector (list not exhaustive). While data from 2019
were annual averages, 2025 values were derived from Q2 listings, the most recent data provided, due to government shutdowns and lack of reporting in Q3 and Q4.
*Though some unverifiable data from year-end 2025 may differ, reporting on BLS showed no significant job losses in Walton County in the private sector.
